The Airport Transfer Stack: How a Family of Four Beats Mears Connect at Orlando International Airport
For a family of four flying into Orlando International Airport, an Uber or Lyft usually beats Mears Connect Standard by nearly $30 round trip. Mears usually wins for one or two riders, for groups that need two cars, and during surge. Here's the rule of thumb, and where to price your own group.
Quick Answer: For a family of four, an Uber or Lyft at normal pricing usually beats Mears Connect Standard by nearly $30 round trip, because rideshare charges per car and Mears charges per person. Mears wins for one or two riders, for groups that need two cars, and whenever the app is surging.
You've landed at Orlando International, everyone's tired, and the question is how to get four people and four bags to a Disney resort. Mears Connect is the easy default, and it's tempting to book it without pricing anything else. For a solo traveler or a couple, that's the right call. For a family of four, it usually isn't.
Our take: the price gap between a private car, a rideshare, Mears Connect Standard and Mears Connect Express can be big, and what should decide it is when you want your day to start. If you land early and want a full first day in the parks, Standard is a gamble: boarding can take a while, and there may be several stops before yours. Express is faster but costs a lot more. (Standard does feel a lot like the old Magical Express, which is its own bit of nostalgia.)
The group behind the numbers below: two adults, a 5-year-old and an 8-year-old, one bag each, five nights at a Disney-owned Value or Moderate resort, round trip, no park-driving days. Change the headcount or the trip and the ranking can flip.
Mears Connect charges by the seat
Mears Connect Standard is a shared, multi-stop shuttle priced per person: $17.60 one-way ($33.60 round trip) for guests 10 and up and $14.30 one-way ($27.30 round trip) for kids 3 to 9, with kids under 3 free and a 3% fuel surcharge on every reservation. Round trip, our example family of four comes to about $125.
Mears also sells Express, which is round trip only and makes your hotel the first stop after the airport and the last before the return. It's a flat $250 for up to four guests of any age, plus the same surcharge. That's about $260 for the example family, roughly double Standard, so it only makes sense if skipping the stops matters more than the money.
A rideshare charges by the car
An UberX or Lyft charges one fare for the whole car, so four people split one price. A one-way UberX to Disney runs roughly $40 off-peak, about $50 at typical pricing and about $70 at peak weekend surge, and a second fare guide puts a typical ride at about $40 to $50, depending on the resort. For the example family, that's roughly $75 to $140 round trip, and just under $100 at typical pricing.
Surge is the one thing that flips it. At typical pricing rideshare comes in nearly $30 under Mears Standard, and off-peak the gap grows to about $50. At the surge fare, the round trip runs about $10 more than Mears instead. So look at the fare in the app for your real landing time. If it's surging, book the shuttle.
Headcount decides the rest
Mears Standard's price grows with every rider; a rideshare's doesn't, up to four. A couple pays about $70 round trip on Mears, less than even an off-peak rideshare, so two adults should book Mears. Three riders is close: with a child as the third rider, the two land within about a dollar of each other, a toss-up (we count anything within 2% of the Mears Standard price as one, since a small fare change could flip it), and three adults save less than $10 with rideshare at typical pricing.
At four, rideshare usually wins.
The pricier options, and when they're worth it
A private sedan from Quicksilver Tours seats up to four for $240 round trip on its published rate card, with a tip customarily on top. That's more than rideshare or Mears Standard. You're paying for a fixed price, no surge and no shuttle stops, not for a saving.
A rental car is the priciest way to handle the airport leg, because you pay for every day of the stay. Our tool assumes about $75 a day for a compact at the MCO counter with the airport's concession-recovery fee and Florida and Orange County taxes included, an estimate for a lower-priced month; one travel-search listing for Hertz at Orlando showed its smallest class at $56 a day in September and $72 on a yearly average, without saying whether those fees are included.
With tolls and gas, five nights lands around $400, more in a busier month. Disney's parking page says overnight self-parking is free at Disney-owned resorts, and standard theme park parking, $35 a day otherwise, is included for their registered guests.
So, which should you book?
| Option | Round trip, family of four | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| UberX or Lyft | $75 to $140 (just under $100 typical) | 4 riders, no surge |
| Mears Connect Standard | About $125 | 1 or 2 riders, surge, 2-car groups |
| Quicksilver sedan | $240 | Fixed price, no stops |
| Mears Connect Express | About $260 | Shuttle, first and last stop |
| Rental car, 5 nights | About $400 | A car for the whole stay |
Two adults and two kids (5 and 8), Disney-owned resort. Mears prices from Mears Connect's pricing page, surcharge included; rideshare off-peak to weekend surge from RideWise and Magic Guides; sedan from Quicksilver's rate card, before tip; rental is our own estimate. Last Checked: September 29, 2026.
Book the rideshare if you're four people in one car and the app isn't surging. It's usually the cheapest door-to-door ride. Book Mears Standard if you're traveling solo or as a couple, if your group needs two cars, or if the fare jumps when you land; it's hard to beat for small groups and its price doesn't move.
Skip the sedan and Express unless a ride with no stops is worth real money to you. Skip the rental unless you want a car for the week anyway, and if you do, shop the daily rate across a marketplace like Discover Cars or Turo rather than one counter.

What's the cheapest airport transfer to Disney World for a group of five or more?
For five or six riders, an UberXL or Lyft XL at normal pricing usually still comes in under Mears Connect Standard; one fare guide estimates XL fares on this route at roughly $50 to $70 one way. Once a group needs two cars, Mears Standard usually catches up or wins, especially during surge. Mears Express adds $55 for each guest past four.
