The Weather Discount: Picking the Right Month for a 2027 Disney World Trip
Planning a 2027 Disney World trip? In recent pricing, September saved a family of four about $500 in tickets over May, while June was a toss-up on price despite double the rain. We lined up NOAA's Orlando weather normals against monthly ticket prices to see which months pay off.
Quick Answer: In recent pricing, September is the one cheap month that's worth its weather. Its tickets ran low enough to save a family of four about $500 over May, for less than one extra rainy day on a four-day trip. June and July cost about what May did with twice the rainy days. If heat is the dealbreaker, pay for April instead.
Nobody's shocked that Disney World's cheapest months come with worse weather. The surprise is how unevenly the discount lands. In recent pricing, late August and September got a real price cut for their heat and storms, while June and July got almost none. Worth knowing before you book the first free week of summer break for 2027.
Our pick: April or May. The weather is just awesome, not so hot that you have to cut your days short, so you really get the most out of the trip. We'd pay a bit more for that.
Orlando's year splits in two
From October through May, Orlando averages about 6 to 8 days a month with measurable rain, going by the 1991-2020 climate normals for Orlando International Airport. From June through September it jumps to about 14 to 17. July and August have the most rain days, and June the most total rain, about 8 inches. A "rain day" is anything from a hundredth of an inch up, so a 20-minute storm counts the same as an all-day soaker.
Heat matters more. Afternoon humidity runs 47% in April and 61% in August and September, and when we ran each month's average high and humidity through the Weather Service's heat index equation, our estimate for an average afternoon came out around 84°F in April, 91°F in May, 99°F to 104°F from June through September and 88°F in October.
July and August, at about 104°F, sit just past the 103°F line where the Weather Service's heat index scale moves from "Extreme Caution" to "Danger."
June is the worst trade on the calendar
A 1-day Disney World ticket for ages 10 and up starts at $119, priced by the date you pick. To see how that plays out by month, NerdWallet averaged the one-day adult price at the cheapest park each day from March 2025 through October 2026.
| Month | Rain days | Heat index | Avg 1-day ticket | Family of 4 vs. May |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| May | 8 | 91°F | $159 | Baseline |
| June | 16 | 100°F | $158 | Toss-up |
| July | 17 | 104°F | $156 | Toss-up |
| August | 17 | 104°F | $134 | About $400 less |
| September | 14 | 99°F | $127 | About $500 less |
Ticket averages from NerdWallet's price analysis, rounded; rain days from NOAA's Orlando normals; heat index and savings (16 adult ticket-days) are our math. "Toss-up" means within 2% of May's average, a gap smaller than the swings between individual dates. Last Checked: September 29, 2026.
The first week of summer break is the default, and that June trip has cost about what May did, with twice the rainy days, a heat index near 100°F and hurricane season opening June 1. These single-day adult averages compare months; they aren't a quote. Kids' tickets and longer stays run lower, and these averages don't cover them.
September pays for its weather
September's four-park-day tickets for a family of four came to about $2,000, and its weather is a little better than June's, not worse. August saves nearly as much but ties July for the most rain and the worst heat.
In 2026, rooms followed the same pattern. Disney's late-summer 2026 room offer took up to 30% off stays of 5 or more nights at select Disney Resorts Collection hotels for most arrivals from July 30 to October 3, 2026. As of September 29, 2026, Disney's special offers page doesn't list a 2027 version, so watch it for a repeat rather than counting on any particular percentage.
Book September directly with Disney
September is also the heart of hurricane season, which peaks on September 10, with most activity between mid-August and mid-October. So book directly. As Disney Food Blog lays out Disney's hurricane policy, a hurricane warning for the Orlando area, or your home area, within 7 days of arrival lets you reschedule or cancel Walt Disney Travel Company packages and most room-only reservations booked directly with Disney, without its change or cancellation fees.
A tropical storm warning doesn't count, and a special discount may not carry over to new dates, which stings if the discount is why you picked September. Third-party bookings follow their own rules, and so does your airline. Those are the 2026 terms; check them again when you book.
About a week out, the Weather Service's seven-day forecast takes over, and our free weather tool for Walt Disney World lines it up hour by hour with each park's hours, so the indoor rides and pool break go where the storm is likely (here's how to plan a day around it).
So, which month should you pick?
Pick September if price comes first and your crew handles heat well. August works if September doesn't, though you get the worst heat for a bit less saving. If your calendar has any give, move off June and July first.
If heat is the dealbreaker, pay for April instead: the year's lowest humidity, a heat index around 84°F, about 6 rain days and no hurricane season. Tickets cost more (the spring average was about $163), but Disney has already listed 2027 room deals.
Disney's spring 2027 room offer takes up to 25% off select hotels for most nights from February 28 to April 29, 2027, and its Disney Visa cardmember offer goes up to 30% if a cardmember stays in the room and pays the deposit with the card. Neither stacks with other discounts, so cardmembers should take the Visa rate.
October is the compromise: about 8 rain days and an 88°F heat index, but still hurricane season, and it costs more than late summer.
