Disney World Mobile Order: How It Works and the Timing Tricks That Save You a Wait
How Disney World mobile order works in the My Disney Experience app, step by step, plus the timing habits that cut the wait: when to book a lunch window, when to tap "I'm Here", and how allergy orders work through the app.
Quick Answer: Disney World mobile order lets you order and pay for quick-service food in the My Disney Experience app, pick an arrival window, then tap "I'm Here, Prepare My Order" at the restaurant so the kitchen starts cooking. It works at more than 60 locations and takes cards, Disney Gift Cards and dining plan credits. The timing trick that matters most: book your lunch window in the morning, because on busy park days the earliest midday window can be a long way off.
The noon line at a park counter is really two waits: one to order, and another while the kitchen makes it. Mobile order folds both into a few taps you can make from a ride queue, and in our experience it's one of the best time savers in the parks. It rewards a little planning, though, and the planning is mostly about timing.
How Disney World mobile order works, step by step
- Open the My Disney Experience app, tap the "+" at the bottom center of the screen and choose "Order Food."
- Pick a location and an arrival window. Not every quick-service spot takes mobile order, so the app's list is the one to check.
- Choose your food and customize it. Many menus have an allergy-friendly section (more on that below).
- Pay with a credit or debit card, Disney Gift Card, Disney Rewards Redemption Card, Apple Pay or dining plan credits.
- When you're at the restaurant during your window, tap "I'm Here, Prepare My Order." The kitchen starts when you tap.
- Wait for the app's notification, then collect your food at the counter with the "Mobile Order Pick Up" sign.
That's the whole flow as Disney's mobile order page lays it out, and it covers more than 60 locations across Walt Disney World.
Book lunch before anyone's hungry
Arrival windows are the bottleneck, not the kitchen. On a busy park day the earliest open window can be a long way off (up to two hours in Touring Plans' 2022 guide), so place your lunch order mid-morning, from the first ride line of the day if you like. Pick the window you think you'll want, not the first one offered.
Booking early costs you nothing. You can cancel an order any time before you tap "Prepare My Order," and you can move the window from the order's details screen with "Change Arrival Time." Changing the food itself means cancelling and ordering again, so settle the menu before you pay.
Disney's instructions are to tap "I'm Here" once you're at the restaurant during your window, and the kitchen starts your food when you tap. While one person collects the order, the rest of the group can grab a table.
Allergy orders: a big mobile order time saver
In our experience, this is where mobile order really earns its keep: allergy orders take longer to prepare, so placing them in the app ahead of time cuts the wait at the restaurant a lot.
In the app, many menus have an Allergy-Friendly section broken out by allergen, so you can go straight to dishes made without milk or wheat instead of reading every item. Disney's allergy-friendly menus cover the nine allergens the US FDA considers most common (eggs, fish, milk, peanuts, sesame, shellfish, soy, tree nuts and wheat) plus gluten.
At pickup, you'll speak with a Cast Member to collect and confirm the order. Orders made through Disney's allergy process come with a visual marker: a pick, a designated tray or, for to-go meals, a sticker on the box and bag. Confirm with the Cast Member even when you see it.
There are two cases where the counter beats the app. If your family has more than one allergy request, Disney encourages ordering from the allergy-friendly menu at the location, and if you can't find what you need in the app, ask there for a special diets-trained Cast Member. Disney also doesn't keep separate allergy-friendly kitchens, so with a severe allergy, a few minutes with a Special Diets-Trained Cast Member in person is time well spent.
Our Allergy Chef Card puts your family's allergies on one page to hand over at the counter, and the GF Dining Finder helps gluten-free eaters pick a restaurant before the order starts.
Where mobile order won't help
Some of the best counters don't offer it at all. Les Halles and Sunshine Seasons in EPCOT and The Polite Pig at Disney Springs don't take mobile order, so for those, go before or after the noon rush. And mobile order can't conjure an open window: if the next slot at your first choice is an hour out, a nearby counter with a short line may get you fed sooner.
The fix for both is deciding where you'll eat before the day starts. Lay out your meals by park day in our Dining Planner, then book each lunch window from the morning's first queue. If you only change one habit, make it that one.
