Quick Answer: Yes, a Moderate is worth paying up for, and our answer is absolutely. In 2027 Caribbean Beach runs about $290 to $420 a night before tax against $190 to $360 at Pop Century, a gap that is usually $70 to $100 and more in the fall. The extra buys a more resort-like stay with a waterslide pool, and both resorts ride the Disney Skyliner. If you only sleep in your room, Pop Century still does the job.

Pop Century is the Value resort many families start with, and Caribbean Beach is the Moderate sitting just above it. The real question is whether the jump is worth it, or whether that money should go to tickets, Lightning Lane or a dinner.

What the extra $70 to $100 a night is

Across 2027 a standard room at Caribbean Beach runs about $290 to $420 a night before tax, and at Pop Century about $190 to $360. By our read of the 2027 rate charts the gap on the same dates is usually $70 to $100 a night, though it runs higher in the fall, when Caribbean Beach's rates climb (up to about $140 around Halloween), and lower around New Year's Day.

Over five nights, that is roughly $350 to $500 before tax. For a family spending several thousand dollars on a trip, it's a real but modest line item.

Why we say absolutely

Our answer is simple: yes, a Moderate is worth paying up for. We still like certain Moderates, and one of us just stayed at Port Orleans, which is also in this tier.

The reason is what the resort itself gives you. Disney's page for Caribbean Beach describes a zero-entry pool with two slides and water cannons, the larger slide 82 feet long and running through a fortress wall, a spa for up to 12 and a shipwreck play area for kids under 48 inches. It's themed around five Caribbean islands, with Sebastian's Bistro and a market on site.

Disney's Pop Century page lists three decade-themed pools and a food court, and doesn't mention a waterslide. Pop Century is fun, and it's a perfectly good place to sleep. A Moderate is built for you to spend an afternoon there.

What the upgrade doesn't change

Getting around stays the same. Both resorts are on the Skyliner, so EPCOT and Hollywood Studios are a gondola ride, and Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom are buses. You don't trade the gondola away for the upgrade. One heads-up: WDWNT reports the Skyliner is scheduled to close for refurbishment January 24 to 30, 2027, with free buses running instead, so check Disney's page if you're booking that week. Our resort transportation guide ranks each option by time saved.

Room capacity isn't the main change either. A standard room sleeps four at both, so a family of five still needs a different plan. At Caribbean Beach some rooms come with a child-size pull-down bed, which you have to request when you book.

Disney's pages for both resorts also say refurbishment is underway, so check what's open for your dates before you book.

When we'd still book Pop Century

If you'll leave at rope drop, come back after the fireworks and only sleep in the room, the Moderate's extras go unused, and the $70 to $100 a night is better spent in the parks. Pop Century also works well for a short stay or a first trip with a tight budget.

If you're torn between Pop Century and Art of Animation, that's a different question, and the price gap there is smaller. On a few dates, such as New Year's Day, Caribbean Beach's standard room costs less than Art of Animation's, though on most dates it costs more.

Spend it in the parks: our Park Ticket Calculator shows the cheapest ticket that fits your group, priced for everyone in it.

So, is a Moderate worth it?

For us, yes. If the resort will be part of your trip, with a pool afternoon, a walk around the grounds or a quiet evening, pay up. Check your own dates in our Hotel Comparison, which gives an estimated range and a best-fit resort for your family. Disney's special offers page lists up to 25% off select rooms on select nights from January 3 to April 29, 2027, so your price may be lower than the rack rates here.
