Frequently asked questions
Is buying DVC resale worth it?
It can be, if you'll use your points for most of the years left on the contract. Resale points usually cost about half of Disney's price per point, but you still pay the same yearly dues, so it takes years of trips before owning beats paying Disney's cash rate. How many depends on the resort and your trip, which is what the calculator works out. Contracts at BoardWalk, Beach Club and Boulder Ridge end in 2042, so there are fewer years to make it pay.
What are the resale restrictions on DVC?
Since January 2019, points bought resale at Disney's original 14 Disney Vacation Club resorts can only book those 14, not Disney's Riviera Resort or the newer resorts. Resale points at Disney's Riviera Resort and The Cabins at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort can only book their own resort. Resale points also can't be used for cruises or Disney's member extras. Points bought from Disney have none of these limits.
How much are closing costs on a DVC resale contract?
Expect about $500 to $1,250 in closing costs, depending on the broker and the price, plus a $500 fee Disney charges on every resale contract. Disney also gets about 30 days to decide whether to buy the contract itself (its right of first refusal), so a resale purchase takes a few weeks longer than buying direct.
