The Best Rides at Magic Kingdom, Ranked (2027)
The best rides at Magic Kingdom, ranked: our top 15 with height requirements, thrill levels and Lightning Lane type, separate picks for adults and for kids, and why Tiana's, Pirates and Buzz are our family's favorites.
Quick Answer: The best rides at Magic Kingdom, in our ranking, are Tiana's Bayou Adventure, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Pirates of the Caribbean, TRON Lightcycle / Run and Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin. Adults should put TRON, Space Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain at the top of their list, while kids under 35 inches can still ride Pirates, Buzz, Peter Pan's Flight and most of Fantasyland. Tiana's closes for refurbishment on November 2 and Disney expects it back in December 2026, so check it before a holiday trip.
Magic Kingdom has more rides than most families can fit into one day, and the famous ones aren't always the ones your group is still talking about at dinner. So here's how we'd rank the 15 worth building a day around, with a height, a thrill level and a family call for each.
The best rides at Magic Kingdom, ranked
Our ranking weighs how much the whole group gets out of a ride against the line it usually takes to get on. Thrill levels are the same calls our Ride Height Guide makes, so a ride reads the same in both places.

Our family favorites: Tiana's, Pirates and Buzz
Ask our team for their Magic Kingdom favorites and you get three answers, each an absolute classic in its own way. Tiana's Bayou Adventure is long and fun, a log flume through the bayou that ends in a final plunge, for riders 40 inches and up. Pirates of the Caribbean is a classic, and yes, it has that epic smell. And Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin has been a huge hit with us since its update.
That update brought new handheld blasters designed for better aim, screens in each vehicle with real-time scores, and targets that let you know when you've hit them. Buzz has no height requirement, which is a big part of why it ranks this high: everyone from a preschooler to a fiercely competitive grandparent gets a blaster.
One timing note for late 2026. Tiana's will close for routine refurbishment on November 2, and Disney expects it back in December 2026. If your trip lands in that window, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad fills the same "whole family, a little thrill" slot, at a lower 38 inches.
Best Magic Kingdom rides for adults
Riding without little ones, or with teens? Reorder the top of the list. Start with TRON Lightcycle / Run, the park's most intense ride and its tallest requirement at 48 inches, then Space Mountain in the dark at 44 inches, then Big Thunder. Among the slow rides, Haunted Mansion and Pirates hold up best for grown-ups, since the details keep paying off on a second or tenth ride.
Our adult top five: TRON, Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Tiana's Bayou Adventure and Haunted Mansion. Adults without kids can leave Dumbo and the Barnstormer off the list; they're short, gentle rides built for young riders.
Best Magic Kingdom rides for kids
Height decides more of a kid's day here than age does. Under 35 inches, everything without a minimum is open: Pirates, Buzz, Peter Pan's Flight, Winnie the Pooh, Under the Sea, "it's a small world" and Dumbo. At 35 inches the Barnstormer opens up, a short Goofy-themed coaster that makes a good first coaster. At 38 inches Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Big Thunder join the list, and at 40, Tiana's. Space Mountain and TRON wait for older kids.
Haunted Mansion has no height requirement, but it's dark and a little spooky, so it suits kids who like that sort of thing. Our kids' top five: Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Buzz, Pirates, Peter Pan's Flight and Dumbo. To see which rides each of your kids can ride in all four parks, enter their heights in our Ride Height Guide.
Where Lightning Lane fits
Two of our top four aren't on Multi Pass at all. TRON and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train are sold only as Lightning Lane Single Passes, bought ride by ride, up to two a day. Everything else in the table is on Multi Pass, where you can pre-book one ride from Group 1 (Tiana's, Big Thunder, Space Mountain, Peter Pan's Flight and Jungle Cruise) and the rest from Group 2.
Which rides are worth paying to skip is a different question from which rides are best. Our Magic Kingdom Lightning Lane, ride by ride answers it with each ride's average wait.
So, how should you plan the day?
Plan around your top five and let the rest fill the gaps. If your group runs from toddlers to teens, Pirates and Buzz are the rare headliners everyone can do together, so save them for the hottest part of the afternoon, when an indoor ride with a seat feels like a gift. If it's adults only, flip the order and go for TRON and Space Mountain first. And if Tiana's is closed for your dates, Big Thunder takes its place on the list.
