When Does Disney World Decorate for Christmas? The Halloween Switch and Every 2026 Holiday Date (Guide)
How Disney World's Halloween-to-Christmas changeover has worked in past years, what changes park by park, and every 2026 holiday date, from Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party to Candlelight Processional and New Year's Eve.
Quick Answer: Disney hasn't published a 2026 changeover schedule, but in past years the switch from Halloween to Christmas began as soon as the last Halloween party ended (Oct. 31 this year), and in 2023 the work ran over two nights. Disney's official holiday season runs Nov. 13, 2026 to Jan. 6, 2027. The headline dates: Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party on select nights from Nov. 8 to Dec. 22, and EPCOT's Festival of the Holidays and Candlelight Processional from Nov. 27 to Dec. 30.
In past years, Magic Kingdom started changing as soon as the last Halloween party of the year let out, and within days Main Street, U.S.A. looked like a Christmas card. Disney's holiday decorating is a yearly routine with its own team and its own calendar, and once you know how it runs, the whole season gets easier to plan, from the first party night to New Year's Eve.
Part 1: How Disney World swaps Halloween for Christmas
The last Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party of 2026 ran on Oct. 31. In past years, that's when the changeover began.
The work belongs to Disney Holiday Services, the team Disney credits with its holiday decorating. Their year starts long before November. Each big tree is refreshed down to its individual branches, every light is tested and every ornament polished, a process that begins months in advance. When it's time, the trees travel in sections to their spots, and welders and decorators assemble them overnight, so the first guests of the morning find them finished.
"Overnight" is the storybook version, though. In 2023, Orlando's News 6 reported that Holiday Services crews started taking down Halloween as soon as the final party ended and added Magic Kingdom's 65-foot Christmas tree the following night. So in practice the changeover has taken a couple of nights, with the big tree arriving last.
What we won't give you is an hour or a crew count. Disney hasn't published either for 2026, and a blank beats a guess. If you're in the parks on the first mornings of November, you may find a work in progress, and remember that Disney's official holiday season doesn't start until Nov. 13.
What changes, park by park
Magic Kingdom
Main Street, U.S.A. gets the park's big icon tree, dressed in classic ornaments with touches inspired by early-1900s decor. Cinderella Castle gets its holiday look through "Frozen Holiday Surprise!", where Olaf and more than 100 of his snowgie siblings add garlands, ornaments and wreaths. Jungle Cruise turns into Jingle Cruise. The tree descriptions here and below come from Disney's 2025 icon tree rundown, the latest it has published, and Disney didn't put start dates on any of this in its 2026 announcement.
The nighttime schedule changes too. On regular nights, the Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away parade still runs twice nightly. On Christmas Party nights it steps aside for Mickey's Once Upon a Christmastime Parade.
EPCOT
EPCOT has two icon trees: one outside The American Adventure hung with 13 lanterns for the original colonies, and one at the World Showcase entrance with flags from around the world and a large angel on top. Spaceship Earth gets holiday lighting as night falls, and a gingerbread Spaceship Earth display comes with its own countdown celebration. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind adds holiday songs from Nov. 25 to Jan. 6.
Hollywood Studios
The Studios tree is a vintage, golden-age-of-Hollywood design with floating ornaments, and Gertie the dinosaur gets a Santa hat. Rock 'n' Roller Coaster takes on The Electric Mayhem's holiday spin, and Alien Swirling Saucers plays DJ Lilypad's new holiday tunes, both from Nov. 4 to Jan. 6. "Sunset Seasons Greetings" brings back its nightly holiday projections.
Animal Kingdom
The tree at the main entrance mixes nature-inspired details with African cultural touches. Every evening after sunset, the Tree of Life Awakenings Holiday Edition plays across the park's centerpiece, and the Merry Menagerie's puppet penguins, reindeer, foxes and polar bears roam Discovery Island. Artist Rob Kaz is greeting guests at Island Mercantile from Nov. 1 to 22.
Resorts and Disney Springs
In Disney's 2025 rundown, Holiday Services looked after 20 icon trees across Walt Disney World, each over 15 feet tall, and the tallest was the 70-foot tree at Disney's Contemporary Resort, taller than the monorail beam. Other resort hotels get trees themed to their own stories. At Fort Wilderness, the Tri-Circle-D Ranch runs holiday carriage rides.
Gingerbread is the quiet change this year. The only gingerbread display in Disney's 2026 holiday announcements is the Spaceship Earth one at EPCOT; the Muppets gingerbread look on Hollywood Studios' Tower of Terror is one of its nightly projections. Disney did confirm over the summer that the Grand Floridian's large gingerbread house won't return this year, with smaller displays from the hotel's culinary team instead (Fox 35 Orlando covered the change).
Fox 35 also named the Contemporary, Beach Club, BoardWalk Inn and Animal Kingdom Lodge as still offering displays, but Disney hasn't published dates for any of them, so check with the resort before you make a special trip.
Disney Springs runs its Christmas Tree Stroll and a nightly snowfall in Town Center, and Santa is there through Dec. 24.
Part 2: Every 2026 holiday date, at a glance
Here's the season on one page. Dates are Disney's unless a row is marked otherwise.
Walt Disney World 2026
10/31 - 1/6/27 · 16 datesDates from Disney's 2026 holiday announcements and event pages; the Oct. 31 row from News 6's 2023 reporting, the parade row from WDWNT and the Nov. 29 row from WDWNT's Oct. 30 ticket check. No takedown date has been announced. Last Checked: November 1, 2026. Planned with Stack the Magic.
Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party 2026: dates and what's left
The party runs 25 nights at Magic Kingdom, from 7 PM to midnight, and party guests can enter from 4 PM. Here are the 2026 dates from Disney's party page:
- November: 8, 9, 12, 13, 15, 17, 19, 20, 24, 25, 27 and 29
- December: 1, 3, 4, 6, 8, 10, 11, 13, 15, 17, 18, 20 and 22
Most of November is gone. As of Oct. 30, WDWNT's check found Nov. 29 was the last November night with tickets, and Dec. 4, 6, 8, 10, 11, 13, 15 and 17 still had them. As of Nov. 1, Disney's party page lists tickets at $189 to $229 plus tax, depending on the night, and nights can sell out or reopen, so check Disney's site before you plan around one.
Annual Passholders and Disney Vacation Club members save $10 a ticket on select nights from Nov. 8 to 20 and Nov. 29 to Dec. 3, and in that Oct. 30 check, Nov. 29 was the only night in those windows still on sale. Our Christmas Party guide covers what the ticket buys and which families should skip it.
The Christmas parade, no party ticket needed (Nov. 10 and 11)
This is the best-value holiday date on the calendar. Mickey's Once Upon a Christmastime Parade, normally a party-only show, is scheduled at 2 PM on Tuesday, Nov. 10 and Wednesday, Nov. 11, in place of the Festival of Fantasy Parade, WDWNT reported. WDWNT also reported that Magic Kingdom's Annual Passholder reservations had filled for both days, so expect a busy park.
It's on the daytime schedule, so a regular Magic Kingdom ticket covers it, but daytime schedules can shift, so check the My Disney Experience app on the day. Visiting in early November? Our early November guide covers the rest of that stretch, including the last weeks of EPCOT Food & Wine.
EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays 2026
The festival runs Nov. 27 to Dec. 30, starting the day after Thanksgiving, and it's included with your park ticket. Holiday Kitchens sell seasonal food and drink, and the Holiday Cookie Stroll fills your Festival Passport with stamps when you buy five qualifying cookies. Glimmering Greenhouses turns Living with the Land into a festive boat ride, and a separate Behind the Seeds walking tour of the greenhouses takes reservations.
Storytellers appear every day of the festival: Las Posadas in Mexico, Père Noël in France, Father Christmas in the United Kingdom, La Befana in Italy, a Hanukkah storyteller between Morocco and France, and more. Already looking past this year? Our 2027 EPCOT festivals guide has next year's dates as Disney announces them.
Candlelight Processional 2026: dates and narrators
Candlelight Processional plays nightly at 4:45, 6:30 and 8 PM at EPCOT's America Gardens Theatre for the length of the festival, with a different celebrity narrator every few nights. Here's Disney's 2026 narrator lineup:
- Nov. 27 and 28: Jordan Fisher
- Nov. 29 to Dec. 1: Gary Sinise
- Dec. 2 and 3: Benjamin Bratt (new)
- Dec. 4 and 5: Whoopi Goldberg
- Dec. 6 and 7: Robin Roberts (new)
- Dec. 8 and 9: Jason Kelce (new)
- Dec. 10 to 12: Neil Patrick Harris
- Dec. 13 and 14: Josh Groban (new)
- Dec. 15 and 16: Lauren Daigle
- Dec. 17 to 19: Ralph Macchio
- Dec. 20 and 21: Henry Winkler
- Dec. 22 and 23: Lacey Chabert (new)
- Dec. 24 and 25: Jodi Benson
- Dec. 26 and 27: Simu Liu
- Dec. 28 to 30: Eva Longoria
Regular seating is first come, first served and often fills, so arrive early for a narrator you love. The surer route is a Candlelight dining package, bookable since Oct. 14: a meal at a select EPCOT restaurant plus a reserved seating badge for your showtime.
Hollywood Studios: Jollywood Nights and what's included
Disney Jollywood Nights is the Studios' separately ticketed holiday party, and this year it runs into January for the first time. The 2026 nights are Nov. 7, 14, 16, 21, 23 and 28; Dec. 5, 7, 12, 14, 19, 21 and 23; and Jan. 3 and 5. The party runs 7:30 PM to 12:30 AM, with entry from 5:30 PM, and prices vary by night.
You don't need a party ticket for the holiday ride versions or "Sunset Seasons Greetings", which are part of regular park days.
New Year's Eve, and when the decorations come down
On Dec. 31, Disney's New Year's Eve celebrations come with regular park admission: dance parties, special entertainment and New Year's Eve fireworks at Magic Kingdom and EPCOT, plus special dining that Disney suggests booking ahead. We haven't seen 2026 showtimes from Disney yet.
As for the decorations, Disney's holiday season runs through Jan. 6, 2027, and the holiday ride versions end the same day. Disney hasn't announced when the trees and garland come down, so we won't guess. If the decor is the point of a January trip, aim for the first days of the month and treat anything after Jan. 6 as a bonus.
Picking your holiday dates
The season isn't one block. It's a string of windows, and each one suits a different family.
- Want everything at once? Nov. 27 to Dec. 22 is the only stretch when the Christmas Party, Jollywood Nights, the Festival of the Holidays and Candlelight are all on the calendar.
- Want the parade without the party price? Nov. 10 and 11 at 2 PM, on a regular ticket, if WDWNT's reported schedule holds.
- Want a specific narrator? Book the dining package for that date, or plan an early arrival at America Gardens Theatre.
- Watching the budget? Disney's holiday room offers covered stays from Nov. 15 to 28 and Dec. 13 to 24, including Disney+ Perks packages and Florida resident rates of up to 25% off. Check that your dates are still available before you plan around one.
Party nights run late, so check the forecast and park hours for your dates in our Parks Weather tool, then save your dates, party nights and Candlelight picks in My Plans so the whole family can see the plan.
