- Description: Which card should carry a family's Walt Disney World trip? The Chase Sapphire Preferred comes out about $300 ahead in year one on its bigger bonus, while the Disney Premier Visa's 2% Disney earn and 10% in-park discounts make it the better card for families who go every year.

> **Quick Answer:** For one big Disney World trip on a new card, the Chase Sapphire Preferred wins by about $300 in year one, almost all of it from its bigger sign-up bonus. After that, the Disney Premier Visa's 2% Disney earn and 10% in-park discounts make it the better card for families who go every year.

Plenty of families put a Walt Disney World trip on whatever card is already in their wallet. That's a lot of spending to leave on the table: one 2026 breakdown puts most families of four at $5,000 to $8,000 for five nights with flights, and another puts six nights at about $7,400 before airfare.

So we modeled a family putting about $8,500 of a [seven-night trip](https://www.stackthemagic.com/trip-planner/) on one card (our working assumption, not a quote). A 1% card would hand back a little under $100\. Both cards here do much better.

Our take, before the math: neither of these is the card we carry. We use a third one, the Disney Inspire Visa, for its credits and the 0% financing on Disney trips. More on that at the end.

## The sign-up bonus decides year one

For the Sapphire Preferred, Chase advertises [75,000 points after $5,000 in purchases](https://creditcards.chase.com/rewards-credit-cards/sapphire/preferred?ref=stackthemagic.com) in the first 3 months. That's $750 at the flat 1¢ Chase points now fetch in Chase Travel, and up to about $1,100 if every point lands on a Points Boost booking, which Chase caps at 1.5¢ a point on the Preferred. Chase has run bigger limited-time offers (a 100,000-point version ran through July 2026), so check what's live before you apply.

The Disney Premier Visa's bonus depends on where you look. Chase's Premier page shows [a $200 Disney Gift Card eGift on approval plus a $100 statement credit](https://creditcards.chase.com/rewards-credit-cards/disney/premier?ref=stackthemagic.com) after $500 in the first 3 months, while Disney Rewards lists [a $300 statement credit after $1,000](https://disneyrewards.com/compare-credit-cards/?ref=stackthemagic.com). Either way it's worth about $300\. Pay the trip's big bills inside those first three months and you'll clear either card's threshold without spending a cent extra.

## What each card earns on the trip itself

The Premier Visa ($49 a year) earns 2% at most U.S. Disney locations, gas stations, grocery stores and restaurants and 1% on everything else. There's nothing to route: the 2% just happens at Disney. The Sapphire Preferred ($95 a year) earns 5x through Chase Travel, 3x on dining and a few other categories (several added in the June 2026 refresh), 2x on other travel and 1x on the rest. Book flights through Chase Travel and your Disney Resort stay direct, which earns 2x if it codes as travel.

On our example trip the two come out close: about $160 in Disney Rewards Dollars on the Premier, and about $170 to $260 in Chase points depending on how you redeem. We counted all in-park spending at 1x on the Sapphire to stay conservative.

## Where the Disney card pulls ahead: at the register

Premier cardholders get 10% off select dining most days and 10% off select merchandise. The participating restaurants include Boma and Sanaa, and select guided tours are 15% off. On a family's sit-down meals and souvenirs, that's worth something like $90 on our example trip, and it comes back every trip. We left out the 20% off at Joffrey's kiosks because coffee habits vary so much.

## Chase points take more work to get their worth

A Disney Rewards Dollar is worth $1 at most U.S. Disney locations, no transfers needed. Chase points are more flexible and less predictable. Chase dropped the Preferred's guaranteed 1.25¢ Chase Travel rate in October 2025\. The Points Guy [values them at 2.05¢](https://thepointsguy.com/loyalty-programs/chase-ultimate-rewards-points-value/?ref=stackthemagic.com), but only by transferring to airline or hotel partners.

Hyatt transfers got worse, too: the ratio drops from 1:1 to 4:3 for every cardholder by October 1, 2026 (those approved before June 15, 2026 keep 1:1 until then).

| Year one, modeled trip | Disney Premier Visa | Chase Sapphire Preferred |
| ----------------------- | ------------------- | ------------------------ |
| Annual fee | $49 | $95 |
| Sign-up bonus value | About $300 | $750 to about $1,100 |
| Rewards on the trip | About $160 | About $170 to $260 |
| Disney discounts | About $90 | None |
| **Net value, year one** | **About $500** | **About $800 to $1,300** |

Our model, not a receipt: about $8,500 of a seven-night family trip on the card, about $1,500 of it airfare. Fees, earn rates and bonuses from Chase's Premier and Sapphire Preferred pages and Disney Rewards; Sapphire ranges run from 1¢ to the 1.5¢ a point Chase's Points Boost terms allow on the Preferred. Last Checked: September 28, 2026.

## So, which card should you get?

Get the Sapphire Preferred for a one-time or occasional trip. Plan on the 1¢ figure and treat Boost as upside, since it only covers select flights and hotels. The points also work for flights, an off-property night or a rental car. Only apply if the trip and your normal spending will clear $5,000 in three months without buying extra stuff.

Get the Premier Visa if you go every year. Strip out the sign-up bonuses but count the annual fees, and its Disney earn and discounts put it about $120 ahead of the Sapphire at 1¢ a point, and about $40 ahead even if every Chase point hit a Boost. (The Sapphire also has an annual Chase Travel hotel credit of up to $100, which we didn't count; use it every year and most of that gap closes.) [Annual Passholders](https://www.stackthemagic.com/disney-annual-pass-calculator/) get the most from it.

Or carry both: both are Chase Visas, and nothing in either card's terms stops you, subject to Chase's approval and its 5/24 rule, which approves a new Chase card only if you've opened four or fewer personal cards in 24 months. Disney registers go on the Premier, everything else on the Sapphire. Most families won't bother for one trip.

What we use: the [Disney Inspire Visa](https://creditcards.chase.com/rewards-credit-cards/disney/inspire?ref=stackthemagic.com) costs $149 a year and comes with yearly credits toward Disney park tickets and resort stays, plus a monthly streaming credit. Like every Disney Visa (the Premier included), it offers 0% promotional APR for six months on select Disney vacation packages. If you'd rather pay a big trip off over a few months, that financing can matter more than the rewards gap above.

## Frequently Asked Questions

**Is the Disney Visa better than a flat 2% cash-back card for Disney spending?**

On earning alone, no. A flat 2% card matches the Premier Visa inside its 2% categories and beats its 1% everywhere else. The Disney card only pulls ahead through its sign-up bonus and its 10% dining and merchandise discounts.
